Cow Skin Jacket

This cow skin jacket is cut from genuine hair-on cowhide, with the natural hair retained on the surface rather than removed — a jacket where the pattern comes directly from the animal itself, not a printed or synthetic imitation. Because every hide carries its own natural markings, no two jackets share exactly the same pattern, and the dark brown and white colouring shown here is unique to this particular hide.

The Hide

Cut at 1.4mm thick with an average hair length of approximately 6mm, this hide has dense, even hair coverage selected specifically for a consistent surface appearance rather than patchy or thin areas. Chrome-tanned with a medium temper, the leather has a substantial, structured hand that gives the jacket real presence and durability, not just visual impact. It's part of our wider Cowhide Jackets collection if you'd like to compare other natural hide patterns and finishes.

Construction

Seam construction is genuinely considered here — hair placement is controlled around each stitched panel join, keeping the coverage looking clean and intentional at the seams rather than bunched or thin where panels meet. The front closes with an antique brass YKK #8 zipper, and topstitching runs at a consistent 8 SPI using bonded nylon thread throughout.

Fit and Lining

A full polyester lining lets the jacket slide on smoothly over layers. Not sure on sizing? Check our Size Guide before you order.

A Note on Natural Variation

Natural markings and hair density are inherent characteristics of genuine cowhide, and the exact pattern on your jacket may differ from the one shown in product photography — this is a feature of authentic hide, not an inconsistency. If you'd rather have a completely uniform, predictable pattern, a printed synthetic alternative would offer that consistency; genuine hair-on cowhide does not, by nature.

Care

Brush gently with the grain of the hair to maintain its texture, and avoid prolonged moisture exposure, which can affect both the hide and the hair coverage. For more on how we source and finish our leather, see our Craftsmanship page.

FAQ

Will my jacket look exactly like the one in the photos?
Not exactly — natural markings and hair density vary from hide to hide, so your jacket will carry its own unique pattern rather than an identical match to the product photography. This is a genuine characteristic of real hair-on cowhide, not a manufacturing inconsistency.

Is the hair real or synthetic?
It's genuine hair-on cowhide, with the natural hair retained on the surface at an average length of approximately 6mm. It's not a printed or synthetic "cow print" imitation.

How should I care for hair-on cowhide?
Brush gently with the grain of the hair to maintain its texture and appearance, and keep it away from prolonged moisture exposure, which can affect both the hide and hair coverage over time.
